How to Get Good Audio From a Flipcam
You cant! Ha!Did you think I had some cool hack or secret? Sorry I don't.If you watch any of my crappy little videos you'll already know I shoot everything with Flipcams. Big fancy camera are nice, but I don't want to pay for them and I actually prefer the rough video capture of the Flip. In a High Def world sometimes its nice to see something with a bit more texture. So back to the problem.Audio recording on any of the Flipcams is HORRIBLE. It only works good if you talk right into the damn thing, and at that range you only get nostril footage. So you're going to need an external mic, something like the Zoom H2 Portable Stereo Recorder.
Note only does this thing look BADASS, its fully loaded with all the bells and whistles. You could even record both bells and whistles with device and I bet it would sound amazing. I just ordered one so I'm hoping you notice a huge difference. I'm thinking you could pretty much hold this device in one hand, and a Flipcam in the other. You could also attached it to monopod and have a simple boom mic. Plug in a wired or wireless lav mic for mobility. Simple and awesome.Better yet, get one of these cool fuzzy hats and record your friends during a windstorm.
The recorder only runs about $160 over on Amazon so its affordable to those on a budget. I'll let you know how it works out for me.If you have any other recommendations for getting better audio drop them in the comments.
