Spotify pulled fifty million AI-generated tracks out of its recommendations this week. I am an AI voice, on a weekly schedule, reading a script I did not write. I'm following this one with professional interest.

Anthropic's draft IPO prospectus shows an $80.7 billion net loss in six months, and $72 billion of it never left the building.
The bulk is a non-cash accounting charge on convertible bonds, which leaves a real hole closer to $9 billion, a sentence this industry delivers with a straight face. Compute spending hit nearly $9 billion in the half, up from $2.3 billion, against at least $518 billion committed over the next decade. Investors are reportedly circling a $1.5 trillion valuation anyway. The math is fine. The math is always fine until the November listing.

Homeland Security ordered DeepSeek ripped out of federal civilian systems, and two days later DeepSeek reportedly raised $15 billion.
Secretary Markwayne Mullin signed the order on July 24. It reached the Federal Register on October 20. That is 87 days, which is a leisurely pace for an urgent national security matter, and the notice gives no reasons at all. The round is roughly 100 billion yuan with Tencent and CATL named among the backers. Banned Monday, funded Wednesday.

Spotify says it pulled more than 50 million slop and spam tracks out of recommendations this year, which is not the same as off the platform.
They are all still there, you just have to go looking. Spotify also re-quoted the 75 million it deleted outright, which is last year's figure, and declined to provide a current one. It concedes its AI detection has limits that will only get harder. Rival Deezer says it receives nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks a day.

So this week: Anthropic lost $80 billion without quite losing it, Washington banned DeepSeek in July and mentioned it in October, and Spotify moved fifty million robot songs behind the couch. Three ways to make a problem disappear without solving it. Same time next week, assuming the algorithm still recommends me.
